There are plenty of great leather suppliers out there...we often visit Chicks Saddlery online & decided to post some visual aids for our clients or potential customers.
We suggest: Chicks Saddlery online where you can purchase reins, headstalls & bits. The reins or headstall above is something we prefer. Regarding snaffle bits, we prefer mild twsited wire bits, starting with very mild smooth mouth & changing out as needed, if needed. Under correct supervision & lessons for both horse & rider, this would all work well. Now, there are really smooth snaffle bits that would keep you safe & safe for his mouth. We don't teach horses by getting rough or on the muscle, we teach them with give & release, which is developed what we call "feel". We show the horse the direction we want him to go with feel in our hands & drive him to it with our legs/feet. We switch out bits depending on the stage of training each horse is in. As he matures, he would graduate to other bits. Our martingale works with snaffle bits.to start with...moving on to a broken mouthpiece short shank, grazing bit etc. Each horse & rider represents an individual case & Twister's personal guidence would help guide both horse & riders to what is best in their case. A horse doesn't stay in a martingale for the rest of his life....it is just a training aid & then as they mature into other bits, there are times you would switch back to the martingale, snaffle setup to refresh his training.
We would suggest that in the future when you visit us, we can set you up at that time with our training methods, suggested bits etc. We would have to work with you here to see what is happening with your horse & where you are in your horsemanship skills.
